Marineterrein Amsterdam
As kick-off of the Living Art Lab visual artist Tilmann Meyer-Faje presented in June 2020 at the former Marineterrein Schietbaan a ‘war fleet’ of baked clay.

With his project ‘Game Over’ the German/Dutch artist Tilmann Meyer-Faje (1974) tries to penetrate the essence of the Navy (Marine). At the former Marineterrein Schietbaan he presented a ‘war fleet’ of baked clay that he produced at the European Ceramic Centre EKWC. The ‘war fleet’ of Meyer-Faje looks impressive and aggressive, but the way he uses the clay also expresses softness and vulnerability.

Tilmann Meyer-Faje (Germany, 1974) studied art at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (BA in 2000). Since 2011 he developed a distinctive way of working with ceramics by which he investigates the complex technological processes that dominate modern life. His large-scale ceramic installations are usually derived from industrial processes and prefab building. Using the softness and pliability of the basic material (clay) the ceramic constructions of Meyer-Faje deform and decays in the making process, resulting in sculptures that look like ruins or archeological foundings.
